Year 4 - Settling In and Soaring High
Wow, what a busy and exciting start to the year we’ve had in Year 4! The first six weeks have flown by and we’ve packed so much learning and laughter into each day.
Numeracy
In Numeracy we’ve been diving into place value and getting to know numbers inside out. We’ve been comparing, ordering and counting up in all sorts of patterns. The base ten blocks have been out in full force and our interactive whiteboard games have brought some friendly competition and plenty of cheering into our maths lessons.
Our WAU Topic – Mighty Me
Our class topic has been Mighty Me and it’s been all about celebrating who we are. We’ve created beautiful watercolour self portraits and pastel drawings of our favourite places. The classroom walls are now bursting with colour and personality, a true gallery of Year 4 talent.
Literacy
In Literacy we’ve been working hard on our punctuation, making sure our sentences have full stops, capital letters and those exciting extras like commas, exclamation marks and question marks. We’ve also been reading The Twits and Fantastic Mr Fox together, which has kept us giggling and maybe a little grossed out along the way. Roald Dahl has even inspired some of our autumn themed pastel art.
Music and More
This term we were lucky to have performances and visits from our Crescendo Music tutors. After seeing and hearing the instruments up close, everyone got to pick which one they’d like to learn this year. We can’t wait to hear Year 4’s very own orchestra taking shape.
ABL Adventures
In ABL we’ve been turning into little scientists, building skeletons and learning about our five senses. There have been lots of laughs and plenty of teamwork as we discovered how amazing our bodies are.
PE Fun
In PE we’ve been running, jumping and working as teams with NM Sports Coaching. We’ve also been practising our gymnastics skills and more recently started our Highland dancing scheme. Let’s just say it has tested the coordination of everyone in the hall, even the adults.
It has truly been a joy teaching this class so far. Year 4, you are such a talented, creative and kind group of learners and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings.
